Aloe vera needs direct or very bright light to grow well; a sunny window is ideal. It likes warmth, between 18°C and 25°C, and doesn’t take kindly to cold below 10°C.

Did you know? Aloe stores water in its leaves — which is why its worst enemy isn’t neglect, it’s overwatering. It’s one of the few plants that does worse when you fuss over it than when you leave it alone.

It’s a succulent: it stores water in its fleshy leaves, so it doesn’t need watering often. The most common mistake isn’t underwatering, it’s overwatering. If in doubt, wait a few extra days before watering again.

Start today: only water your aloe when the soil is completely dry. If in doubt, wait.
